The latest edition of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is upon us with six teams from around the world vying for two spots in this new format. This is the first time that a new format has been introduced to the game. At least two years before, only three venues had hosted four or five different tournaments across formats and regions throughout history. Nowadays, this number remains high. We have come a long way since the advent of cricket; however there are still some differences that have yet to be addressed.

In the last stage, the runners-up.
4th Place – Fourth Knockout.
The fourth, fifth or sixth place finishers will compete in reverse semi final and in the best of seven finals.

The quarterfinal will determine the quarterfinal losers. If neither beat the challengers then elimination will happen.
9th Place – Winner's Plate, Elimination Phase I
If the ninth placed teams qualify then the losers will make a plate. Either elimination or the losers can win both, choose one of their two options. Or if they don’t like the other choice then they can choose their other option. In either case, both semi finalists will progress to the next round.
10th Place - Elimination phase II
If the tenth placed teams finish above the eighth place but below the third place, then they will have elimination.
11th Place - Winner's Plate Phase III

Phase I: Opening Tournament
2022 cricket world cup points table
The opening tournament will feature three T20Is followed by 20 Test matches against each country and two ODIs. The hosts will play the opening ODI against Afghanistan followed by the T20 series. The two formats will be held across 40 days from March 25 to September 15 2021.
In the beginning, the international cricket fraternity have been saying that all the T20Is will be played in the United Arab Emirates due to its warm weather and availability of players. However, given current COVID-19 challenges, none of the players will be allowed into the UAE by April 2020. Until then, there is no certainty that another tour will take place.
A couple of interesting aspects of this tournament. To start with is that some teams seem to be stuck in the bubble and unable to commit fully to the competition. During the IPL, most teams got stuck in Dubai where they were forced to do everything possible to help themselves recover from the loss. There are now claims that several members of the T20I World Cup squad are living out of their hotels, as they fear possible quarantines and isolation. On the flipside, some teams will be playing in a bio-bubble unlike others. So far there has been a lot of speculation regarding the safety of the players and teams, especially those residing out of their hotel rooms.
The biggest question though, is whether this format of fielding will work in international sport. Will it always be such a big spectacle? And will spectators even come to watch? All this will depend on how it goes. But there is an opportunity for some changes that need to be done in order to bring us closer to fans again after the previous editions of sporting events.
